Thus, Christian and Islamic elements merged together. The mosques and imperial palaces maintained their characteristics, now infused and blended with both Eastern and Christian traits. Monuments and works dedicated to Christ joined the golden inlays of inscriptions destined for Muhammad. Today, this extraordinary heritage, with its unique intertwining of traditions and architectural styles, remains visible in Granada.
Yet, the most striking aspect of the city is its interconnection with Muslim rule. Lasting approximately 800 years, it is reflected in the beauty of its monuments and structures. In the courtyard, visitors are enchanted by the magnificent Lion’s Courtyard, crowned by dozens of columns almost centered around the lion fountain. This ancient yet mystical fountain is formed by a series of lions that support the central structure from which bursts of water emerge. Despite the grandeur of the work, the sound of the fountain is tranquil and relaxing, and closing one’s eyes creates a “peaceful” harmony in perfect sync with the surrounding structures.
And it doesn’t end there. Externally, one can admire the magnificent gardens, which are a fundamental part of the complex. Walking through these “paradises,” it will feel as though you’ve stepped into a corner of heaven.
